Parangtritis, a beach with a bunch of memories

Posted by Salsa at 1:15 AM

Parangtritis beach is the most famous coastal tourism in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. It is located in 27 KM south of the city and it is easy to reach with public transportation. Parangtritis beach is a right place to go if you want to enjot the perfect sunset.

Parangtritis according to the old legends in Majapahit Kingdom era, tha there was someone who ran out from the kingdom named Dipokusumo. He was meditating in a region and  noticed water dripping (tumaritis) from the cracks of coral reef (parang in Java). Then Dipokusumo named that region Parangtritis which means water dripping from a stone.

Local people believe this beach is an embodiment of unity of Mount Merapi, Keraton Jogja, and Parangtritis itself. So that people always connect when there is a natural phenomenon that is happening in the case of three of three sites.

Parangtritis has a unique view that you can not find in other coastal tourism. It has big waves and there are mountains of sand around the beach which called gumuk. In dry season the wind usually blows faster and the waves can reach the height 2-3 meters. Because the waves are big so the visitors are prohibited to swim around the beach, therefore the manager already provided the public bath for the visitor who want to swim comfortably and safely.

Located about 27 KM south of Yogyakarta , you can choose two tracks to get in there. The first one is Yogyakarta – Jl. Parangtritis – Kretek – Parangtritis. The second is Yogyakarta – Imogiri – Parangtritis. The second one will be farther but on the way you will see beautiful view.Along the way you will see beautiful green fields, hills and winding river. And if you take time to visit the tomb of King  in Imogiri, then you won’t regret it.

You wore blue jeans, 'mountain' shirt, and a blangkon on your head. It was hard for me to choose which was more beautiful, the beach or you.
